Our mission is to save the lives of animals on euthanasia lists in shelters, and provide a range of care, including but not limited to: hospice care, end of life care, medical care, rehabilitation/training and find loving homes with responsible, committed adopters.
Our rescues include: Dogs of good, loving temperament and occasionally cats, that are in dire need of help.
German Shepherd Rescue of NY, Inc. provides adoption services and responsible pet ownership educational services. Our dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered (when medically able) and microchipped. We offer guidance before making the decision to adopt, and provide "after" adoption support.
To adopt from German Shepherd Rescue of NY, Inc., you must first fill out an application and pay a non-refundable $20 donation towards our dogs and program mission.
Each dog has their own personality, temperament, behaviors and needs. Seeking their best match comes first.
We take the adoption process very seriously, and help guide our adopters through the process of finding the right fit for their lifestyle and needs.
Once approved, you will be contacted to arrange a phone, or in-person interview.
Once a match is found, a meet & greet will be arranged.
Dogs can be taken home on the day of the scheduled adoption date.
-We generally DO NOT take owner surrender dogs, due to legal & liability ramifications, but each situation is unique, and occasionally we make special exceptions, depending on the circumstances-
-WE DO HELP: Owners looking to surrender dogs on a daily basis by offering other contacts and links for rescue groups in their area and beyond, who might take owner surrenders-
AN EXCEPTION IS OCCASIONALLY MADE FOR:
-Young Puppies/unplanned litters (signed over by contract from overwhelmed owners)
Sometimes, this is done through a veterinary hospital or shelter.
-**Adult dogs (Owner has passed away/health issue or dire situation) Often times we encourage owners to go through our local shelters. The shelter has the option to reach out to us once the dog is taken in.
**FOR ADULT DOGS:
-Ownership must be proved through history of vetting paperwork and must call your vet to give our group permission to speak to them for history and reference.
-The dog must have a friendly temperament when meeting strangers, (shy but friendly is ok) and we must be able to meet the dog, often times, requiring more than one meet.
